Most Oil Pumps are directly driven by Crankshaft Components, specifically internal gears spin faster as engine speeds rise. More oil gets to the engine as speeds increase and prevent damage from increased friction and heat. Pumps draw oil from reservoirs known as Oil Pans or Oil Sumps and push the liquid through filters before it reaches a network of channels and passageways bored out in the block. Use the dipstick, marked with a yellow circular handle near the front of the engine to check on the condition and amount of oil in the car.
